One-to-one tutoring
What do I offer?
Friendly and approachable private tutoring for GCSE students who feel they need a little extra, bespoke, input to their English Literature and English Language studies.
Which examination boards do I cover?
I cater to all UK examination boards:
-
AQA
-
Edexcel
-
OCR
-
Eduqas/WJEC
-
CCEA
-
Cambridge iGCSE
-
Edexcel iGCSE
How are lessons delivered?
Lessons can be given either in person, if you live in the Cheltenham area, or over Zoom if you live farther afield.
What do I teach and how do I teach it?
After a detailed preliminary discussion with the parent/caregiver and/or student (free of charge), I tailor my lessons to the individual student's specific areas of development, whether that is English Language or English Literature or both. Please be aware, however, that it will not be possible to cover ALL of the material for both GCSEs in one hour per week.

I use a range of methods to support students' learning, such as colourful PowerPoint presentations, shared reading and analysis of texts, shared writing of model answers, self-marking of work using marking criteria and summative and formative feedback. Videos on my YouTube channel, covering the content and skills required for both Literature and Language, are also available as an additional resource.
What do I not teach?
TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language): This is a completely different subject for which I do not hold the appropriate qualifications.
How long are lessons and how much do they cost?
Sessions usually last for one hour but this is negotiable.
Each block of 5 lessons costs £150 (paid in advance) which works out at £30 per hour.
Next steps
If you are interested in arranging private tutoring for your son/daughter, please fill in the contact form below, providing information about the age of the student and current year of study (e.g. Year 10/4th Year), the examination board (e.g. Cambridge iGCSE) and giving an outline of the areas where they feel they need extra help (e.g. language analysis, understanding and responding to poetry, etc.).

Please note that I don't make tutoring arrangements directly with students. These have to be made by a parent or caregiver.
